Super Squats Challenge

Welcome back, Super Squaters! I bet you thought you would take the summer off! So did I! My trainer had different plans for me. He told me that I needed a new fitness goal for the next 12 weeks, and he was right. I managed to deal with some pretty big things in the top half of this year and not let my health completely fall to the wayside. However, I still have not met my long time weight goal and my butt still doesn’t look like Ivet Lalova’s (google her, I’ll wait).

I needed something to excite me but that in NO WAY involved running. I HATE RUNNING. I think running is something you should only do when being chased by rabid dogs trying to eat your Ben & Jerry’s Late Night Snack. So my next challenge is to virtually bike to San Francisco. Why there? Because there really is no where else I’d rather be than in the cool summer air of Northern California. My destination is the gorgeous City Hall. What grander entrance can I make than to pull up to this crown jewel of a building?

The travel distance is 756 miles. Broken down over the course of 12 weeks means that I need to ride 63 miles per week. I was never a big bike rider before, and by that I mean that I never rode a bike – stationary or otherwise. I chose nearly every other form of cardio exercise before biking. I’ve started on the stationary bike because it’s safe, free, and I can ride no matter the time of day or weather. I may get bored and try a road bike but the horror stories of getting hit by a car will probably keep me inside. Plus, this way I can read all the great books you have suggested for summer reads.

As of today, I’ve ridden 40 miles. If you would like to join me on this adventure, or make your own, choose a place you would like to be (within reason) and then let’s ride (or run) there together!
