Game of Thrones Finale Recap: “The Children”

The children are all aloooooone.

Right into it:

  • Gregor might be “different”. I wonder how different.
  • Brienne and Sandor. Like, holy shit. Not as brutal as Oberyn, but still. Why do you think they’ve done it so differently?
  • Jojen, gone. The rest barely made it, but they’ve found the children of the forest. Now Bran can get weirder.
  • Tyrion says happy father’s day in a strange way. Given the problems that this show has had with its portrayal and treatment of female characters, I saw Shae’s death in a different, more negative light than I did when I read the books. Fair or not?
  • Jaime, you dumb fuck, why are you still fucking your sister. I alternately want to hit him and kiss him this season
  • Speaking of Cersei, after Tyrion she benefits most from his mini-murder spree.
  • Stannis is the new hero. How he deals with the Night’s Watch could be interesting.
  • Jon performed admirably during the entire ordeal, even though his assassination attempt predictably got nowhere.
  • As the dead sheep foreshadowed, Drogon has become a danger to small children. Viserion and Rhaegal are safely locked away, but Drogon is still out there, presumably barbecuing more toddlers. Dany is in a tough spot.
  • Arya sidestepped Brienne and trades her gift from Jaqen for a boat ride to Braavos to make it on her own. How will she deal with foreigners?
  • So, the next step is set up for our characters. Will Tommen last? Will Margaery, who was unseen this episode, be able to grab more power now that Tywin’s gone or will Cersei be her match? Why did Sandor have to die at the hands of Brienne? Where is Brienne going to go now?

    Thanks for another season!
