Queens Library Now Lending E-Readers

Starting today, patrons of Queens Borough Public Library in New York City will be able to borrow Nook e-readers pre-loaded with content. The pilot program is the first of its kind in the city and demonstrates a continued commitment to meeting patrons’ needs in the digital age.

The e-readers will be available only at the Central Library in Jamaica, Queens, for now. Each Nook will have 25 books in one of five categories: best sellers, mystery, romance, young adult and children’s lit. Additionally, each Nook will have 50 classic titles.

The Queens Library, the Brooklyn Public Library and the New York Public Library, which services Manhattan, Staten Island and the Bronx, already lend e-books to patrons who use their own mobile devices. Now that QBPL has taken this next step forward, it puts some pressure on NYPL and BPL to follow suit.
