Whether we asked for it or not, there’s always been someone giving his or her opinion as to what we should think, believe or do.
Sometimes their words are on point, giving you a perspective which has served you well through life or merely helped you resolve a situation. Other times…not so much.
For example, ever since I was a wee lass, I’ve been constantly told to “give people a chance.” Fair enough. However, since I was good at judging people’s characters, telling me to give someone a chance was essentially telling me to not trust my instincts.
On the other hand, when I was a not-as-wee lass just out of school, I had a job where, during certain times of the year, we worked around the clock to meet some deadline or another. After being yelled at by a colleague during one of those times, a co-worker turned to me and grumbled that “people’s characters are best judged under stress.” To this day, I still go by what she said.
So. What’s the best and worst advice you’ve ever received?
