Lindsay Lohan’s SNL Hosting Gig Will Probably Go There

Are we ready for the rise of Lohan? This is probably a complicated question.

It’s probably premature to say that we’ve all written her off completely. Yet, there probably isn’t another name in Hollywood that is so synonymous with “train wreck” that it almost seems as if the term was written just for the former Parent Trap star.

We’ve heard for years about Lohan’s seemingly never ending roller coaster ride of sobriety and then relapse, followed by jail stint after jail stint, and other forms of public meltdown/nude posing/fights/theft, and whatever else she could cram into her short-lived young adulthood. Now that Lohan — who’s apparently been doing fairly well in her court ordered community service — wants to now regain some of the spotlight and will be starring in a new string of comeback vehicles including hosting SNL, and her recent casting as Elizabeth Taylor in a Lifetime Biopic, are we ready for her return, and a better question, is she?

This is what she’ll have to prove if there’s any hope of salvaging her acting career. Movie studios have lost faith, directors have publicly acknowledged that they don’t want to work with her, and that frankly she’s become a liability, and a punchline that, yes, even SNL has capitalized off of. This is all something Lohan knows, and she’s attempting to use that bit of infamy to her advantage in her latest play for popularity. SNL plans to indulge her. But to what outcome? Those of us who will tune in will in some ways be doing so to armchair assess her capability as an actress and as a recovering(?) addict. We’ll probably start by hoping for a flawless return to success and will be pleasantly surprised if Lohan can deliver her performance Saturday night without a hitch, but there is little doubt, at least at first, that we’ll probably be watchful to see if she seems altered or odd while determining if she still has any acting chops left.

There’s no doubt this Saturday’s SNL will probably be a ratings boon for NBC, but more than anything it will be a test of whether or not Lindsay can still succeed as an actor. In this series of SNL promos released today, one can’t help but notice her trepidation, and the effort to be what we can only guess as normal, which says nothing of her almost shocking appearance complete with obvious plastic surgery enhancements, a sallow complexion underneath the makeup, and bleached blonde hair that is a far cry from the freckle-faced, ginger locks of years past. This is someone obviously looking for a transformation, but as we all know, it’s more about the inner transformation and not the outer presentation. Yet and still, perhaps this is a step in the right direction for the embattled starlet, you know, facing your demons (and mockers) head on. Hopefully she comes out a winner.

Good luck, Lindsay.
