Hello all Squatters! We’re at week 5 of this go round of Super Squats Club. Only three weeks left!
Last weekend my long run was 11 miles. I must look like a running marketer’s dream. I’ve got on a hat from the 2010 Bank of America Shamrock Shuffle, a shirt from the inaugural Mardi Gras Rock n Roll Half marathon in New Orleans, a Nathan water/nutrition belt, and a Garmin GPS watch. Oh, and there’s the energy bar in my belt so I can make it through the last half of my run and my iPod shuffle clipped to my pants. My Runner’s World magazine tells me that sometimes it’s good to do a run for fun without all the gadgets. I have yet to reach that stage in my running career where I don’t care about time or distance. Right now I want to know exactly how far I’ve gone and how long each mile took me. Even now on my hash runs I take my Garmin so I know how long trail was. Though there I don’t need the iPod on trail, lest I be called out for having technology on trail.
Anywho, the 11 miles was daunting at the beginning, but the route I have mapped out for myself takes me along Chicago’s lake front. Man is it pretty out there. Even with how chaotic the city can be and with Lake Shore Drive adjacent to it, the lake front path can be pretty calming. Despite running into to the wind for most of my run, I was able to maintain a pace that was nearly a minute faster than my previous long runs and I’m pretty happy with that.
Was this week as good for you as it was for me?
