QOTD: Do You Send Christmas Cards?

(Intro note for youngsters: back in Days of Long Ago, it was the custom, each Christmas, to send pretty cards to people you didn’t like well enough to write letters to, or talk to on the phone regularly.)

It’s October, which in the book trade means that everyone is desperate to think of a way to drum up a little extra coin, to help pay the rent. Back when I had my bricks-and-mortar bookstore, this is when I’d start receiving catalogues for Christmas cards.

I used to send personal Christmas cards to quite a few people. Fewer every year, as time passed. And, especially, as email use grew. If I liked someone that much I’d send them little emails all through the year to let them know my news.

So, the question: do you send Christmas cards? What is your thinking behind the sending/not sending of them? How personalised are they (i.e., photo of self/family on them)? Do you write one of those whole-year-of-news letters? What is your opinion of these letters?
