World Health Organization Links Cell Phone Use to Tumor Growth

In a hotly disputed announcement the World Health Organization (WHO) released a study yesterday that linked cell phone use to two rare types of tumors, one that is cancerous. WHO officials classified the radiation released from cell phones as “possibly carcinogenic to humans.”

Scientists conducting the study found a link between the radiation and  glioma, a type of brain cancer. While this type of cancer is rare, a spokesman for the WHO noted the significance of the finding considering the explosion of cell phone use world wide.

However, the announcement was meet with disagreement from many in the scientific community as well as industry groups. The complete study will be published in July in Lancet Oncology and will be available from the WHO website.
