Photo Phriday: Show your College Spirit

Two Photo Phridays in one week, isn’t this special. For this spirited occasion, I want to see your school spirit. Show how much you care for your college. If you didn’t attend one of those overpriced degree factories, show us what school you hold dear.

I’ll start with three:

Yuck Fale. The first one is the back of a t-shirt our student government commissioned to honor the Princeton v. Yale game my sophomore year. The design is a Yale Bulldog being roasted over a fire. We have a little tradition at Ole Nassau that if we beat Harvard and Yale in the same year we celebrate with a bonfire. It had been well over a decade since our last bonfire, we were hungry and all knew 2006 would be the year. Our football team was on a rampage – by the Yale game, they were 7-1 and had edged out previously undefeated Harvard a few weeks earlier.

The school rented buses to send hundreds of us up to New Haven and many many others drove to be joined by scores of alumni. This is one of my best moments in college career because for a few precious moments, I was at a FOOTBALL SCHOOL, one that shut down on Saturdays because our boys were doing serious business to defend the lady’s honor. I didn’t care about football before and haven’t sense. The Bulldog was delicious, I got a prime piece.

Why I am showing three photos?  Because it’s my party and I do what I want.  I got more spirit than YOU too!  Really if you must only know about ONE Princeton tradition – it’s Reunions. A gay old alumni party over Memorial Day Weekend that distills every Animal House college stereotype into a three-day binge fest with an Ivy League twist. GQ explains it much better here. I’ll let you read about this debauchery and will instead show a banner of the best class to ever exit Fitz-Randolph Gate:

The festives peak with the P-Rade on Saturday afternoon where each class, led by the 25th Reunion and Old Guard (>50 years out of the Gate), marches down the main drag.

Finally, the beer jacket — staple of the Reunions dress code.

The jacket is designed by each class during their senior year and given out with cap & gowns. It must clearly display your graduation year, be orange/black, ugly, and hold at least 6 beers. At your 25th Reunion, the beer jacket is traded up for a blazer which Michelle Obama would have gotten in 2010 had she come.

Hit me up if you want to host next Phriday.

Here are the rules. For those of you who are new, or live in open threads, look here and here are your instructions (taken and modified from earlier PP posts):

  • This is the magic computer code you use to make pictures appear:
    • <img src=”http://www.photosite.com/yourphoto.jpg” />
  • And it’s a URL of a photo, not photo file. Crasstalk doesn’t accept files from your hard drive – only from the Internet. You can upload your photo to Facebook, Flickr, TinyPic, or any other online photo hosting site to generate a URL for the photo. For many of those LOLcats/dogs/monkeys I can’t seem to quit foisting on all of you, I use ImageShack or imgur
  • Also, be sure to add a few words of text with your picture so it doesn’t get tripped up in the site’s spam filter.
  • To pick up an image online, right click (or ctrl-click on a Mac) on an image and select “View Image” or “Copy Image URL/Location.” Copy-and-paste the URL and plug it into the img src html code.
