Cops to Get Futuristic Arm Band to Make Punching More Effective

How often do comic books inspire real life? I’d say almost never, since I haven’t developed the ability to fly or incinerate anything with my eyeballs yet. But if you could devise something…would it be a super duper arm gauntlet that could stun criminals, house a video camera, and possibly incorporate GPS, biometrics, and chemical sensors. Well, maybe. Perhaps add a batarang and I’m sold!

A new prototype stun-glove has the ability to shock an assailant with a 300,000-volt punch all in one armor sleeve. The first batch of pre-production superhero gloves will be used by the LA Sheriff’s office later this year for testing and evaluation. Called BodyGuard, naturally, it also has many of the features mentioned above like the video camera, laser pointer and flashlight. The brainchild behind this super weapon says is that it’s affixed to the arm, so there’s smaller chance of the officer dropping the weapon during some sort of melee or having it taken from him.

And the best thing about it, aside from making robot noises while wearing it, Kevin Costner is an investor and appears in the demo video, so that means it’s like a serious thing, right?! It is totally like an action movie. Costner is so on his science game. First helping out the BP oil spill and now partnering with the makers of a superhero robo arm? And I laughed at your British accent, Robin of Loxley. Well, yeah, that should’ve happened.

Editor’s Note: Turanga Leela has been wearing one of these since 1999.
