Recipe Sunday: Purple Potato and Chorizo Frittata

The other day I was cleaning out our cabinets and I found two little purple potatoes from the fall. Purple potatoes! They’re one of my favorite treats of the autumn. It was like a little gift from October. Since they were such a treat, I decided to pair them with chroizo that I’d bought for a Christmas batch of Paella.

Recipe Sunday: A Cheddar Cheese Ball That’s Almost a Gift Itself

The secret arrow in my holiday quiver is this cheddar cheese ball. It’s simple to make, is incredibly addictive and can even make uneven gift giving seem on par. It’s kind of magical that way.

For instance, my cousin gave us a DVD player (with Wi-Fi!) as an early Christmas present. I was stunned by the gift, and giddy as a schoolgirl. But, I wasn’t prepared for a gift exchange the night before Thanksgiving. However I had made her a cheese ball as a surprise.

When I lamented the fact that the only thing I had for her was the cheese ball her face lit up.

A Sandwich for Liz Lemon

A couple of weeks ago when I first heard the news that Liz Lemon was getting married – and that guests were asked to bring their own snacks – I decided to make a meal that was fitting for the occasion. In fact, a friend of mine and I even decided to have a little party to celebrate. But, life intervened and we couldn’t get together, so I completely spaced my food plans.

However, after writing about nutritious food all day on Thursday the 29th, I looked at the calendar and realized that it was Liz Lemon’s wedding day, and I had nothing prepared to munch on in front of the television! (Except for two types of lentil salad.) Continue reading
