Mad Men Post Mortem: The Quality of Mercy

ted_chawSecond to last new episode for season six. Let’s discuss.

WARNING: Spoilers ahead.

I made myself record Spurs/Heat post-game coverage and start watching last night’s episode around 10:30 last night. I’m very annoying to watch Important Playoff Games around because I whoop and holler with the best of them. Of course, one minute into Mad Men, I yell out “WHAT THE FUCK?” Poor Kenny. Did the bullet just graze him? I have no clue how he made it out of Detroit alive. I can’t believe those sons of bitches tried to stop for lunch on their way to the hospital.

-?Peggy and Ted sitting in a tree k-i-s-s-i-n-g.? For two people who were going to put their feelings on the back burner (or squash all together) they sure were all over each other (without actually being all over each other) last night. I’m torn between wondering if Don did the right thing by calling St. Joseph’s and then using the “dead partner” excuse to get the client to up the budget. I can’t help but wonder if Don is just jealous that he’s not the object of Peggy’s affection. As much cheating and fraternizing goes on in that office, I think everyone would be willing to look the other way on their relationship, but they need to tone it down a bit. And they haven’t even gotten physical yet!

-Is it wrong that I didn’t find Glenn as creepy during this episode? Sally definitely has a crush on him and I don’t think her feelings are returned.

-All season we’ve been wondering just who Bob Benson is and last night we got our answer. He’s a nobody. Someone who got a job because he looked the part and no one bothered to ask the right questions. Hell, or any questions for that matter. At first, I was confused as Bob with Pete’s speech about how he’s not going to rat Bob out. But then in occurred to me that Pete wouldn’t want another scene in a senior partner’s office tattling on someone for not being who they represent only to have it backfire in his face. As many of you mentioned last night, Bob is now Pete’s bitch. (P.S. I don’t think Pete is gay, but Bob definitely is. Poor Joanie – does she know as much yet?)

-Peggy’s right! Don is a monster! But how does she get away from him now? Will she be the next person to call Duck to find a way out from underneath Don again?

So excited and sad for next week’s finale. As this is my last post-mortem (APotC is up next week), I just want to say thanks to everyone for reading, commenting and participating! You really make this my favorite show to obsess over!
