Top Five Kids In The Hall Sketches

How much fun it is to post a Kids In The Hall video clip on an online forum? Too much fun, that’s how much. More than twenty years after their debut, the Kids’ material is still (mostly) relevant. Yes, there are some dated references here and there, but the majority of their work is timeless.

Here I present my top five Kids In The Hall sketches. To get to five, I had to cut the adventures of Kathy and Cathy, the overly-judgmental secretaries (“Hey, here comes Tanya the temp. Slut! Temp Slut!”), teen sensation Tammy, Cabbagehead, The Fight Picker, the world of the Head Crusher. I could have made a top 20 list, but instead decided to pare it down to the essentials.

Number Five: Simon and Hecubus

The two people who are worst at being evil in the world.

Key Phrase: “Evil, evil, impolite and evil!”

Runner up: “I am ready to serve you, master. Aaaaand Satan!”

Number Four: Bobby vs. Satan

Ne’er do well Bobby, with his blue collar dad and sarcastic mom. Who knew such a schlub was destined for rock greatness? Satan did, that’s who.

Key Phrase: “Why don’t you unplug your amp and let me (kill) kiss you.”

Runner up: “No guitar mercy!”

Related fun with Bobby: The Ham of Truth.

Number Three: Monique, The Pyromaniac

Monique is every awful co-worker you’ve ever had who remains employed because their manager is scared to fire them.

Key Phrase: “Everyone is so flammable”

Number Two: Buddy Cole

Buddy’s brand of out-there queer politics and unabashed sexuality was a breath of fresh air twenty years ago, and it still is today.

Key Phrase: Too many to list here…

Related fun with Buddy: Softball Coach

Here’s the top, the cream of the crop: Sex Girl Patrol

I believe this to be the superlative Kids In The Hall sketch. The costumes and make-up, the sets, the writing. There’s even special effects!

Key Phrase: “Askin’ askin’ askin, always multitaskin’ ”

Runner Up: “How much trouble could Sex Boy get into with just one hand?”
