I may have shared this with you all before, but one of my cousins is basically living my dream life: she has her own successful catering business, owns a small gourmet shop, has her own cooking magazine, her own TV show, cookbooks… you name it, she owns it. From the time we were little kids, she was always bringing something delicious to our family gatherings. Today I am sharing her recipe for a quick and easy salad dressing. Continue reading

What is your favorite dessert? I have many, but one thing they all have in common is the presence of chocolate. Feel free to make the cake batter from scratch, but if you are lazy like me, you can use Betty Crocker’s chocolate fudge cake mix. Mmm, my mouth is watering just thinking about this cake! There’s something so simple and satisfying about scallion pancakes. These staples of Chinese restaurants aren’t difficult to make at home (although there are a few simple techniques that help them to be soft and flaky) and they are incredibly delicious. Scallion pancakes also only require one “expensive” ingredient – sesame oil. You can find a bottle of that for three to nine dollars – and it will last you for at least a year, even if you use it regularly. Continue reading
Sometimes you feel like spending all afternoon in the kitchen whipping up something delectable. Other times, you come home from work exhausted and all you want is to make something quick that’s still tasty. I like this recipe because it only has a few ingredients, it’s quick to make, and it’s pretty cheap. Continue reading
We’re talking/daydreaming about going to DC in the fall to visit family, and as part of my daydreaming I hit the Menu Pages website to see what the area restaurants had to offer. I came across a Mexican restaurant that sounded appealing. As I read through their menu, I saw flautas listed and it occurred to me that I hadn’t made those in years. That omission was quickly rectified later in the evening. But, I upped the ante by making homemade flour tortillas as a base. Continue reading
A few weeks ago I was looking through the Epicurious app (this app is awesome, you must get it!) trying to find a Turkish-style chicken recipe. This recipe caught my eye because of the yogurt marinade. However, I have no idea what Aleppo peppers are, so I decided to substitute Chipotle powder instead. What a hit. Continue reading
Fried chicken doesn’t have to be cooked in a quart of oil – sometimes it can just be cooked with butter. And it tastes amazing. Continue reading
There are a lot of feelings around the Internet about Giada DeLaurentiis, but in my house she can do no wrong. We are big fans of her recipes, but particularly these quick and yummy eggs for breakfast. The original recipe can be found here, but I’ve made a few modifications over the years to create what we call Giada Eggs. Serves two. Continue reading
A good chicken sandwich can mimic a hamburger, becoming a delicious vehicle for toppings. We don’t go out to eat very often, but when we do my eyes always stray to the hamburger menu. I stopped eating beef in my late twenties because I had burned out on it and I’ve never fully redeveloped my taste for it. So, hamburgers are just little sandwiches that taunt my memory. When we do go out to eat, though, I’m a hamburger pusher for my husband. Continue reading
Do you ever read the recipes that come in the back of your food packaging? You know, the pasta sauce recipe printed on the back of your canned tomatoes, or the cookie recipe on the back of the bag of morsels. If you don’t, you may be missing out on some quick and simple recipes that are ripe for modifications. Continue reading
