Southwest, TLC Pair Up for a New Show

In the air, on the air, Southwest is everywhere. Six years after their A&E show Airline ended, Southwest Airlines has joined forces with TLC for a new series that will showcase what happens behind the scenes of modern air travel. Take that, Pan Am.

The A&E Series featured gate agents and passengers in Chicago’s Midway International Airport, Baltimore-Washington International (BWI), Houston Hobby and Los Angeles (LAX). Not to miss out on one of the busiest weeks of travel of the year, crews will begin filming at BWI and Denver International Airport this weekend.

Our Favorite Occupy Wall Street Protestor

Yesterday Achilles and I spent the day following Occupy Wall Street. At the end of the day, we ran into this guy. This is Jeffery Marx from Brooklyn, New York. He was part of the OWS group that had been staying in Zuccotti Park. We caught him in front of the Brooklyn Bridge talking about Mayor Mike Bloomberg and why he is participating in OWS. He is a an articulate guy and says some really smart things, but we actually just like him because after a long day of serious political discussion and conflict with the police, he was funny and snarky. Here are his comments on OWS.

Crasstalk COW-Year Two, Familiar Faces

What? Did you think that I was just going to quit on you after a year of these? Never! If anything, I’ve got my work cut out for me after taking a week off to do the anniversary post. Keeping that in mind, we’ll keep the narrative to a minimum this week and get right to it.

Following “The F*cking Epic Twitter Quest of @MayorEmanuel”

Writing a book is probably not something you think about doing 140 characters at a time. But that’s exactly what Dan Sinker did with “The F*cking Epic Twitter Quest of @MayorEmanuel.” He might not intended for his parody of Rahm Emanuel’s 5 month long mayoral campaign to become a book, but that’s what happened.

I originally read the @MayorEmanuel twitter feed in real time. It was one of the reasons I finally ended my boycott of twitter. The feed was hilarious then and it translated well as a book. The annotations in the book provided additional background of the characters featured in the twitter feed – both fictional and non fictional. Most tweets on their own are comedic gold, but read again in book form you can see the whole story come together. Continue reading →

Super Squats: Partner Up!

I recently was asked by my friend to pick up the mantle of the Super Squats column here at Crasstalk and I humbly accepted, of course. Why else would I be writing this? So anyway, I’ve been a self-proclaimed “gym rat” for many years now and with that has come a lot of knowledge about what challenges people face when they’re trying to lose some weight or get back to the gym or just improve their life.  Continue reading →

Occupy Wall Street Actually Occupies Wall Street

Early this morning Occupy Wall Street Protestors swarmed downtown Manhattan to block off access to the stock exchange. After a confusing start, protestors brought the neighborhood to a near standstill. Police are reporting that so far about 200 people have been arrested today. Continue reading →

Hey, People of the World! Stop Shoving Weird Crap Up Your Whoo-Ha!

Okay. Now this may be a shock to some, but I’m just gonna come out and say it — not everything is an item that should play hockey with your organs. People apparently are forgetting that fact and instead are deciding that just about ANYTHING should see the inner workings of their body from an access point that’s usually off limits. I’m thinking maybe there should be some sort of campaign. Perhaps a slogan or something. Yes, something like “Your iPod is a listening device…for your ears. Your Lower Intestine Can’t Hear. End Musical Devices in Your Innards.”

And there’s a book about it.

The Angry Black Man’s Plan for Ending the NBA Lockout

(A quick note from Bots: The Angry Black Man is a friend of mine here in The A, as well as our newest author. In real life he’s not that angry but we thought the screen name was funny, so we’re running with it.)

I know it’s very difficult for us mere mortals to comprehend what’s at stake in the NBA lockout negotiations. I mean, for us fans this means nothing but a few missed TV slots during an otherwise boring work week. But to these “athletic gods”… I mean, come on man, this is life.

I can’t imagine what it must feel like to have to negotiate for your job. Oh wait a minute, that’s what the job description, interview and salary requirements are for, right? Well for professional athletes… not so much.

Back in the day, sports franchises were owned and run by people who were knowledgeable about their respective sports and they were dedicated to winning. Not only winning for their respective teams, but winning for the fans, for their cities and even for the sports themselves.  Continue reading →
