Tuesday News Roundup

Good morning gang. Sorry I have been neglecting my news duties the last few days, but The Grand Inquisitor is having all kinds of jackassery to deal with. Such is life in the New American Century™. Anyway, here are some interesting reads from around the internet.

Wikinews has an interesting report on the latest research being done to investigate the connections between genetics and schizophrenia.  About 1% of people suffer from the disease or related disorders. Scientists are discovering that there is no single genetic marker, but rather there are several. It is hoped that the research will be the key to unlock more effective drug treatments for the disease.

The Smithsonian has this fantastic article about 10 books lost to time. Included are works by  Austen, Hemingway, and Homer. It’s a fascinating read about what might have been some fascinating reads.

David Zhang of the University of Hong Kong has been searching for connections between weather and social disturbances. Zhang’s study concluded that climate change has a statistically significant impact on disruptions such as war, mass migration, and famine. This should make global climate change even more interesting.

BBC History put together this really cool slideshow. It is a preview from a new book by Paul Koudounaris about the use of human remains to create art between the 16th and 19th Centuries. The images are amazing and just in time for Halloween.
