Buying a Nikon doesn’t make you a photographer. It makes you a Nikon owner. ~ Anonymous
Technically I didn’t buy a Nikon. I inherited an Olympus OM-1 but that still doesn’t make me a photographer by any means. This Christmas one of the gifts I received was my dad’s old camera. I certainly enjoy taking pictures but I have absolutely no knowledge of what any of the settings on the camera and lenses do so I’m going to try to learn about such things by taking a photography class.
According to the class syllabus “[I’ll] learn to understand [my] camera better – all of the buttons, knobs and attachments that seemed so intimidating when [I] signed up for Fundamentals of Photography will make sense to [me]. [I’ll] have a collection of negatives that [I] developed! [I’ll] watch your first blank piece of photo paper become a photo right before [my] eyes. [I’ll] learn about technique; [I’ll] learn a little chemistry and [I’ll] begin to understand who [I] want to be as a photographer.” A tall order for a seven week class! It will be interesting to see what happens.
My plan is to share what I learn through some write-ups on Crasstalk and hopefully get some feedback from you guys regarding how I’m doing. Hope you enjoy!
