Valentine’s Day Open Thread

This open thread is brought to you by romantic ingenues and the late, great Debbie Reynolds.

“Singin’ in the Rain” is an American classic – one of those films that justifies the existence of Hollywood – but it’s Debbie that makes the movie memorable for me. At all of 19 and with no dance training, she had to hold her own against a superstar like Gene Kelly. Not only could she keep up with him as leading lady; her turn as the sassy, vulnerable, lovely Kathy Selden steals the show.

Supposedly Betty Noyes sings Would You, but I can’t help of think of this as Debbie’s/Kathy’s, given how close this sounds to her own singing voice (and doubly so if the Youtube uploader actually found special audio of Debbie singing this.)

Have a great week, Crasslktalk.
