Game Of Thrones Recap: “The Watchers on the Wall”

ZOMG WILDLINGS

So this episode was really mostly just a bunch of fire arrows zooming across the screen, which was fine with me.

  • Samwise Gamgee Tarly astonishes his friend Pyp (RIP) with his courage. You’re a man now, Sam.
  • THE WIZARD OF WESTEROS KISSED HER
  • Ygritte really, really wants to kill Jon. Except of course she doesn’t.
  • Basically, everyone dies. Pyp gets put down by Ygritte, Grenn by the giant in the tunnel, and Ser Alliser is MIA by the end of the battle but presumably received a mortal wound. Though Janos Slynt suffered no wounds hiding in the cellar his chances are probably not good either.
  • Ser Alliser, right? Seems like slightly less of an asshole now that there’s actually a crisis. Big thumbs up to Owen Teale.
  • Ygritte. When they come face-to-face they exchange sad smiles and then Jon realizes that he should resist the urge to hand out advice when she suddenly sprouts an arrow loosed by the young village boy he just directed to kill wildlings.
  • This is the episode where we see why Jon has been put through all the shit he’s been put through. Suddenly being Commander Mormont’s right-hand man comes in handy. Ser Alliser admits he was right about blocking the tunnels. After Janos is tricked off the Wall, the other men defer to Jon’s judgment. He is the leader Castle Black needs, but not the one it deserves.
