Mad Men Post Mortem: To Have and to Hold

MM_604

Welcome to this week’s post-mortem. Unlike my first assignment with the series premiere, I felt like this episode was filled with a lot of “wows.” We’ll talk about those in a second, but first:

Warning: This post will contain spoilers. If you haven’t watched this week’s episode and don’t want to be spoiled, then don’t come in here.

Ok, now that that’s out of the way. Here are my thoughts on this week’s episode:

  1. Peggy did it. She found out about ketchup and then Stan found out that she used that bit of gossip against him. Either that’s the end of their friendship and we won’t see anything else, or it’s the beginning of a bigger rift we’ll get to enjoy.
  2. Silly Dawn. Wants to get along with her coworkers, but let Scarlett walk all over her when she agreed to punch Scarlett’s time card. Now she gets to be in charge of the supply closet and the time cards.
  3. Thanks to Harry’s smug attitude, we got to see Joan assert herself and act more like a partner than usual.
  4. Harry Crane is a terrible person and must die. Sleeping with that terrible Herb didn’t earn Joan her partnership, but it gave her the balls to finally ask for what she deserved. As many of you pointed out in last night’s OT, she helped build that freaking television department. HVDY Harry Crane think that she doesn’t deserve to be exactly where she is. Oh, and by the way, if you deserved to be partner, wouldn’t they have asked you when they formed the firm? Or when Lane died? Or when they got the second floor? And don’t piss on that commission check. If I was Bert or Roger, I’d have half a mind to take it right back. (Though I guess Roger did have a similar thought.)

What about you guys? What are you thoughts? Be sure to share links to your favorite recaps, Mad Men power rankings and other fun facts you think we might like.
