Sunday Olympics OT

Welcome endurance drinkers, let’s talk Olympics. Here are some highlights from yesterday and a rundown of some of today’s events.

Yesterday Michael Phelps won his final Olympic medal (another gold!), Serena Williams dusted Maria Sharapova, the U.S. Men’s Basketball team edged Lithuania 99-94, and the British Men’s Four Rowing team won its fourth consecutive Olympic gold.

Some of today’s medal events:

  • Tennis:
    • Men’s Singles: In a rematch of the 2012 Wimbledon final, Roger Federer and Andy Murray compete for gold. Novak Djokovic plays Argentinian Juan Martin Del Potro for bronze.
    • Women’s Doubles: Venus and Serena Williams vs. Hlavackova and Hradecka, for gold.
    • Mixed Doubles: Andy Murray and Laura Robson vs. Azarenka and Mirnyi, for gold.
  • Track: Women’s 400m, Men’s 100m, and Men’s 3000m Steeplechase.
  • Diving: Women’s 3m Springboard.
  • Gymnastics: Men’s Floor Exercise, Women’s Vault, Men’s Pommel Horse.

Some of today’s other events:

  • Women’s Basketball: U.S. vs. China, Great Britain vs. Brazil, Canada vs. Australia.
  • Women’s Beach Volleyball: Two U.S. teams, May-Treanor/Walsh and Ross/Kessy, compete in quarterfinal matches.

A commenting note: I think we’ve become overly cautious about spoilers. What we want to avoid is posting the results of an event before the event is broadcast on U.S. television. Any event that has been or is currently being broadcast is fine for comment. Thus if you’re DVRing something to watch later and want to avoid spoilers, this may not be the place for you.
