Don’t call it a chick flick. This classic film has stood the test of time crossing ages and cultures to be remade not once… not twice… but three times most famously as An Affair to Remember starring Deborah Kerr and Cary Grant. Let’s hope it bypasses the current run of Hollywood remakes because if I have to even think about Kristen Stewart and Zac Efron as the leads I might have an embolism.
If you’ve only seen its more well-known remake then you’re in for a treat. The original is better paced clocking in at 87 versus 119 minutes. The dialogue either works better set in the time period of the original or Irene Dunne just delivers it better. I would tell you I also like Charles Boyer better than Cary Grant as the philandering playboy but I’m not in the mood to start a thunderdome so I’ll keep that to myself.
Pour yourself some pink champagne and let’s get the movie started.
