Mad Men Post-Mortem: Commissions and Fees

Let’s discuss what happened on Mad Men last night shall we? Fresh off last week’s pretty depressing and squeamish episode, we can hope for something not as serious right? Come in here and share you thoughts and links about this week’s episode.

WARNING: THIS POST WILL CONTAIN SPOILERS ABOUT LAST NIGHT’S EPISODE. IF YOU DON’T WANT TO BE SPOILED, I SUGGEST YOU STAY OUT OF HERE.

  • Let’s start off with Sally. I think she was being particularly See You Next Tuesday like, even for a 12 (is she 12? I couldn’t find anything too conclusive on Wikipedia or IMDB) year old. When she got to Megan and Don’s house, I thought to myself “I hope she gets her period.” And not in a “oh it’s time to grow up” way, but in a “Jesus, you’re driving me up the wall” way. Her reaction of freaking the fuck out and just going home was spot on. There are just some times when a girl needs her mother, whether she likes her mom or not.
  • Creepy Glenn is back! Poor Sally. Her first rejection from a boy.
  • It’s nice to see Don get some of that fire back after landing Jaguar (even if they got the account in a way that was not really on the up and up).
  • Joan is a partner now, not silent.
  • I wonder how long Lane thought he was going to get away with the embezzlement. I’m sure he never expected that Bert would be the one to find him out.
  • Don did the right thing by asking for his resignation. It was the least he could do. How can you continue to employ a man as your finance manager if you can’t trust him to not forge the books.
  • We finally find out that Lane needed the $7,500 to pay The UK Man because of the taxes on dissolving his portfolio so he could have the $50,000 that was needed to start the new agency.
  • Correct me if I’m wrong, but didn’t Don pay Pete’s share? I wonder if Pete’s paid him back.
  • The irony of Lane’s wife getting him a Jaguar is just priceless. And then for the car to not start during his suicide attempt – even more so.
  • It’s sad that Lane thought the only way to solve his problems was to commit suicide. He kept saying how he never got what he deserved, but he never spoke up either. I’m not saying it would have been easy to ask for help, but I wish he would have.

Ok, your turn. I’m sure there is so much about this episode that I missed in my discussion despite having re-watched it right before coming to work.
