Mad Men Post-Mortem: Christmas Waltz

First off, thanks for waiting the extra day for this week’s post-mortem. You know the deal. You can share you thoughts and links about this week’s episode in this post.

WARNING: EVERYTHING FROM THIS POINT ON WILL BE A SPOILER. DON’T WANT TO KNOW WHAT HAPPENED? DO NOT PASS GO, DO NOT COLLECT $200, DO NOT COME IN HERE.

Here’s are my thoughts and observations:

  • Don had two really great lines this week. The one where he told Megan that no one has taken a bigger stand against advertising than her. To me that cut as deep as when she told Don to call his mother. I wonder if she had never tried to advance in the agency if their relationship would have blossomed. The other one: “Be prepared to swim the English Channel and drown in champagne.” There’s the passionate Don Draper we all fell in love with.
  • Nothing great from Bertina this week and that made me a little sad considering how much time he spent on screen.
  •  What is with Lane’s money troubles? Is this new? Is it really so bad that he has to steal from the company? And his wife doesn’t know! I’ve got a crush on Lane, but this storyline has got me questioning him. How far is this going to go?
  • Kinsey is a Krishna! What a way for a character to re-emerge. My thoughts in the OT when he first appeared on screen were “WHUT. THE. FUCK.” And I stand by that. I hope that he has some success in Hollywood, or at least finds what he’s looking for.
  • I love the whole thing with Joan and Don. Some of you said in the OT that if they got together the show would be jumping the shark and I must agree with that. I think at one point (before the show started) Joan was at Don’s desk. Maybe they already had their tryst.
  • The flowers Don sent Joan? Perfect.
  • Watching a Christmas episode in May really messed with my brain.
  • We discover Roger knows that Kevin is his and that Joan is refusing his help.
