Mad Men Post-Mortem: Signal 30

Come on in and discuss last night’s episode with us. If you have any good recaps, or other insights, please share.

WARNING: THE REST OF THIS POST WILL CONTAIN SPOILERS ABOUT SUNDAY’S EPISODE OF MAD MEN. DON’T COME IN HERE IF YOU DON’T WANT TO BE SPOILED.

  • Probably first and foremost, Pete was super creepy this week. We know he has a history of being a creep, but between his weird crush on the high school girl and the thing at the whore house, he really went above and beyond.
  • Still on Pete. Is he really miserable? I know the move to the ‘burbs was more Trudy than him, but what’s up his butt? And even if he is miserable, I don’t think that gives him the green light to cheat on his wife. However, I think he was projecting feelings from Don to himself during the cab ride home. Don’s certainly done some not so great things, so I don’t think he’s in a position to judge others that do what he once did.
  • The fight with Pete and Lane! Bert had a few more lines than usual this week, but his one gem “This is medieval” was priceless. I can’t believe they went full dukes fight in the office. My crush on Lane got a little bigger this week.
  • I do love how Joan went in to check on Lane after the fight and how she handled the kiss. Even though Lane’s friend was new, I understand how Lane would have trouble reconciling that he’s not just a “good ole chap” from across the pond as he and his wife thought.
  •  Watching Pete fumble with the tools while Don worked his magic with the sink was priceless. Pete and Don have such contrasting childhood stories. Pete being raised in Manhattan, never having to lift a finger for anything. Don being raised in the country, having to walk to the outhouse in the middle of winter, having to steal someone else’s identity to get what he wanted.
  • Last, but not least, we got to see that Kenny is still writing. I like that he is having success with it. I laughed when Roger called himself a fellow author. Kenny is actually selling his stories, whereas Roger’s memoir is probably collecting dust on a shelf somewhere.
  • This episode was directed by John Slattery.
