No One Could Possibly Believe the Things These GOP Candidates Are Saying… Right?

As we are well into the election season, I wanted to share what I have learned from GOP Presidential campaigning so far.  This is based on what I have heard from the candidates themselves and read in both the “Mainstream Media” and “Fair and Balanced” media.

  • Knowing how to speak a foreign language is suspect.
  • Having a college education is elitist.
  • Science shouldn’t be considered over belief.
  • Being unwilling to constantly profess your “faith” means you can’t be trusted.
  • Believing that each person has any responsibility for the common good is un-American.
  • Objecting to constitutionally legislating “morality” makes you immoral.
  • Personal rights should be limited based on a specific set of non-secular rules widely open to interpretation.
  • Any rules or guidelines eliminate the ability of businesses to succeed.
  • It is correct that corporations are people and should be able to contribute unlimited funds to the candidate of their choice.
  • “Progressive” is a bad word.

If the above are true, does it not follow that:

  • Being uninterested and ignorant of other cultures or countries is admirable.
  • Remaining uneducated is desirable. Someone with a master’s degree can’t understand an Average Joe.
  • Science facts should be weighed equally with unprovable religious stories.
  • Hypocrisy is a force for positive change.
  • Citizens shouldn’t have to make any contribution to society that isn’t specifically beneficial for them as an individual.
  • We should change the constitution to suit a narrow set of religious beliefs.
  • Some people are more equal than others.
  • Businesses should be able to dictate their own rules and guidelines to suit themselves, irrespective of the effect on the overall economy.
  • We need the best government officials unlimited money can buy.
  • Regressing to a period pre-1950’s would make America a better place.

Maybe I just don’t understand. Let’s hope these ideas were “the media’s” fault.  There is a deliberate conspiracy to misrepresent candidate’s views based on out of context quotes and creative editing. No one really truly believes these things, right?
