We Need To Talk About Kevin Review

Here at Crasstalk, we definitely love our psychopaths and stories about them. That being said, you will definitely want to see “We Need To Talk About Kevin.” Kevin, the son of would be adventurer Eva (Tilda Swinton), is a great example of a psychopath and what they are capable of doing. Kevin, played as a teenager by Ezra Miller, is just the right amount of creepy to keep you on the edge of your seat.

The non-linear plot begins with Eva in a choppy dialogue-free exposition reminiscent of “Enter The Void”. Her life is out of sorts and she is being harassed by an entire town for an unmentioned wrong. You gradually learn what happened in a series of flashbacks that follow the son she doesn’t like, Kevin, from infancy to young adulthood. As he ages, the amount of dialogue increases and Kevin exhibits more and more traits that typify a psychopath.

Tilda Swinton is perfect as the mother. She is so strange looking that it always amazes me that she is able to pull off playing an everyday person. Oddly enough, Eva is married to Franklin (John C. Reilly). He is a pretty minor character but plays a major role in helping you to understand the depth of Kevin’s deceit.
