Wednesday News Roundup

Well here we are again Crasstalk. Shall we take a look and see what is happening around the world? Don’t be scared, I am sure everything is going to be just fine. OK, maybe not fine, but I am sure all the bad things will be over soon. They won’t? Oh, well I am sure these tribulations will make us stronger and create a unified sense of national purpose. It won’t? Really? Sigh, well look, maybe adversity will make us a stronger and more resilient. OK fine, I might be lying, but only a little. OK, a lot. Well, at least we still have sweet booze.

  • If it is any consolation to our American readers, the EU is facing a tough road to negotiate a solution to the Euro crisis. Keeping Greece’s problems from spreading to Italy and Spain is going to be really tough to pull off. Hang in there Europe, we will save you some space in our Hoovervilles.
  • Two grenade attacks in Nairobi have killed one person and injured thirteen others. The attacks are believed to have beeen carried out by radical Somali Islamist group Al-Shabaab. The group is seeking revenge for Kenyan Army incursions into Somalia after a string of kidnappings on the border between the two countries.
  • The New York Times has published a poll on the latest views of Americans on the economy and government. Congress has a whopping 84% disapproval rating and 89% of Americans distrust government. The poll shows bad news for Republicans; seven in 10 Americans think the policies of Congressional Republicans favor the rich. America’s mood has turned foul, which spells trouble for elected officials from both parties.
  • The San Fransisco Chronicle has a stunning report on conditions in farm worker communities in the Coachella Valley. Thousands of farm workers lack safe housing and potable water and children face infections and injuries from the unsafe conditions. Remember all that complaining I did at the top of the post? I take it all back. I am going to shut the fuck up and count my blessings now.

Damn, I think we need some cute animals now and maybe some delicious booze to make everything a little more fuzzy. Courage.
