Which US Cities Have the Most Coffee Shops?

There are places in major cities where you can see a Starbucks while sitting in a Starbucks. This kind line of sight storefront placement may seem like overkill but there are some US cities that have so many coffee shops per capita that they have coffee shops inside of coffee shops. According to the NPD Group and CNBC the US cities with the highest people to coffee shop ratio are:

  1. Seattle/Tacoma, WA – 1,640
  2. Anchorage, AK – 172
  3. Portland, OR – 876
  4. Boise, ID – 143
  5. Spokane, WA – 251
  6. Denver, CO – 743
  7. Eugene, OR – 138
  8. Sacramento, CA Area – 556
  9. San Diego, CA – 455
  10. Austin, TX – 199
  11. Honolulu, HI – 229
  12. San Francisco Bay Area, CA – 1,379

The numbers here are the number of coffee shops in the region. Austin makes it on the list as the only city East of the Rockies. But everyone knows Austin is full of anarchist hippies so this isn’t really surprising.
