Listen to This: Daft Punk’s “Drive”

Back in August I linked in one of the OTs to a story on Pitchfork about a long lost Daft Punk song that had been discovered. Initially intended to be released with “Rollin’ and Scratchin'” as Soma25, “Drive” wound being shelved in favor of the Daft Punk’s now classic tune, “Da Funk.” That was 1994. Flash forward to present day, and the long forgotten song was rediscovered as Soma was compiling its three disc Soma Records 20 Years retrospective. “Drive” is the first track on the Classics disc. Listen to the song after the jump.

Although it sounds somewhat unfinished/unpolished, there’s no mistaking that it would have fit in perfectly with the rest of Daft Punk’s Homework. It feels less like a song to enjoy in its own right and more like a rare opportunity to discover something archival in nature about the French duo, whose less than prolific recording career and mysterious identities have helped fuel fans’ thirst for more.
