Amy Winehouse Dead at 27

It has been confirmed by several sources that Amy Winehouse was found dead in her London flat today. Police were called to the address registered to her and discovered a deceased woman. The cause of death is still under investigation but a drug overdose is suspected.

Debuting in 2003 to critical success in the UK, she stormed onto the international music scene with her 2006 album Back in Black, which earned her five Grammy awards. She was such a unique vocalist and song-writer, really leading the new surge of supremely talented British ladies onto the music scene. But the ravages of her drug and alcohol addiction were ever present and obvious at almost every turn.

In her death, she will be joining the “27 Club” as noted by SixThirty: Kurt Cobain, Janis Joplin, Brian Jones, Jimi Hendrix and Jim Morrison, all of whom died at the age of 27.

As with the others, you are gone far too soon, Amy. The world needed your voice.

This was always one of my favorites of hers.
