Flashback Friday: Put On Your Shitkickers

All righty, all you real ‘Muricans! Today is your day to show us the music that is the foundation upon which this country was built…HAHAHAHA!

Just kidding. Country music is often treated as the red-headed step-child in the music industry, maybe it’s the high hair but as they say: “The higher the hair, the closer to God!”

Speaking of, Miss Dolly Parton, the national treasure, is the epitome our country girl. As she says, “It takes a lot of money to look this cheap!” But don’t let the schtick fool you, Dolly is smart as a whip and has more talent in her fake-fingernailed little finger than you can ever dream of having. What other entertainer has a theme park named after them? Who else told Elvis “thanks, but no thanks” to buying her song so that she could keep the royalties? This song is so sweet and heartbreaking, yet uplifting in the way only Dolly could make it.

As I watch the video for Queen of Hearts, a song to which I still know all the lyrics, I wonder if she was the Shania Twain of her time – pretty, kind of poppy, but worked her ass off.

Let’s hear it. Your throwback country is what we’re hankerin’ for.
