Live Blog of the Wikileaks War of 2010

All right, let’s do this.

This is a live blog of the war between Anonymous and those Anonymous believes have violated the rights of Wikileaks Editor in-Chief Julian Assange.

If you don’t know what Wikileaks is, get off your ass and figure it out.

Assange was arrested in England earlier this week an sexual abuse charges and is being held awaiting extradition to Sweden.

Supporters of Wikileaks believe the charges are politically motivated and that Assange is being railroaded. Meanwhile the release of thousands of diplomatic cables enraged many US politicians (like Liebermen and Palin) and led to the shutdown of the Wikileaks website. The site was denied server space by Amazon.com and Mastercard, Visa, and Paypal refused to take more donations or release funds to Assange. Upset over the treatment of Assange and his website the internet group (?) anonymous has attacked these 4 websites as well as taking down Sarah Palins PAC page (giggle).

Tonight I am going to attempt to follow the latest round of attacks and activity to see what exactly is going on and see who will win the war for the internet.

Ground Rules:

I will not link to the chan sites here. Instead any unsafe links or docs will be on this page (long story).

Safe (FaceBook, YouTube, etc). links will be here.

I will update this page as the night goes on.

If you know me, please don’t address me by name in the comments.

Here’s a couple links to start:

Anon’s Blog

Take a second to check this stuff out. I am going to get on the IRC and elsewhere and will put up more in the comments. If you have questions post them below and I will try to answer them.

9pm: This strategy is being batted around, meh.

Here’s a giant list of  Wikileaks mirrors, there really is no way to unknow anything on the internet.

A note about going to 4chan (or any chan): 4chan and similar sites are really, really gross. Like fucking a donkey while jacking off Ron Paul kind of gross. You have been warned.

Here is a pretty amazing site someone has put up in support Assange. Very slick, it acts as a social networking hub.

9:40 pm:

There appears to be a huge scramble to open secure IRC channels. It looks like they can’t keep them up very long before they are shut down. I am looking at continuos threads of people exchanging ideas about this.

This little website ran an article suggesting the CIA shoot Assange. They are doomed.

Paydirt! I mean PayPal. Go to the other page. If you you go to the last link (in bold) you can find a button that lets you attack PayPal yourself. Please don’t do this. It is safe to go to the link page and check it out though (well maybe safe is the wrong word).

10 pm: Must walk the beast. BRB.

All right, I haven’t managed to get any malware yet, and the FBI isn’t here, so let’s see what else we got.

The Wikileaks FaceBook page shows that there are 9 separate protests in support of Assanage in Australia tomorrow. Most of them have hundreds of people commiting to attend (the one in Melbourne has almost 3,000). It will be interesting to see how this plays out tomorrow.

10:30 partyvan.info is down. They are an insurgency site, and have been taken down by the FBI before so this is no surprise. I will try to find the manning docs from somewhere else to repost.

BREAKING NEWS:

Posted on the IRC I am on. It looks like there is a split in the wikileaks governing body and some members may split off and start their own whistle-blower site.

Best attack so far, Anons created a Glenn Beck Today Page. Awesome.

11pm:

The Glenn Beck page has one of those creepy videos. Here is a really good one from a while back aimed at Stephen Colbert.

Colbert was trying to get a NASA space nation named after himself while anonymous was trying to get the same space station named after Xenu the Scientology deity (?) This is a joke, Anonymous is not really trying to fuck with Colbert.

11:15 pm

The Anon folks seem to be genuinely scared by this. Determined, but scared. There is a lot of recognition that they are taking on some powerful folks. From an Anon message board:

“You are right. This isn’t like any previous raids. It is more dangerous and so much more different than anything we have ever done before. This is a war. This isn’t some n00byp4nts saying shit like that to be dramatic. People will get arrested, and I strongly believe that the governments of the world will go as far as kill some people over this.
We are threatening their comfortable lives of corruption. We are the soldiers of this new war. Sure, we use to do everything for the lulz. But now, the future of anonymous and a future where everyone can be free is now at stake.

Anonymous must become the fabled final boss of the internet it is meant to be, and we must fight against such censorship and government corruption that goes against our intellectual and physical freedoms.

The infamous insurance.aes256 comes with some possibilities. By simply releasing information won’t put the government into submission. It will make people react, and it won’t be pretty.

So I ask you Anonymous, are you prepared for this? Because shit is going to hit the fan soon. It won’t only show in your virtual lives, but in your real lives as well.

Remember who we are.
We are anonymous
We are legion
We do not forgive
We do not forget
Expect us!

So, let me ask you one more time. Are you ready anonymous? They expect us, and we must deliver.”

This doesn’t seem like a bunch of reckless kids to me. They have been getting ready for this for a long time.

Midnight: Anonymous just posted a new video to YouTube

They also have a new twitter.

They are really trying to get everyone to the new IRC. I am going to check it out.

12:20 am

Watching people attack Paypal right now. Apparently they are holding off on Amazon. However some people have began to attack Bill O’Reilly’s site. The mods are not pleased.

Why the Internet is Awesome:

On the IRC as people are talking about firing against paypal someone just put a spam ad in. Lulz. Wait, I think I just found out how they are transferring money. Iz a journilzt!

It was suggested that I post the link to the Wikileaks Insurance file. Click here for your own copy.

It looks like there will be a prWikileaks rally in Miami next Monday. Here’s the FaceBook page.

1:00 am:

I am a total wuss and am going off to bed. Last quote to ponder for the night:

“This brings me to my next point. Even with all its lock-down power, China can’t stop the dissidents from breaking through the wall, it can only restrict their numbers. The Internet is complex beast, and there are plenty of places to hide in it. The spaces might get a little tougher to squeeze through, but they’ll always be there in one form or another.”

Welcome to the Brave New World.

8:00 am

After rereading this this morning, I feel this is a more appropriate ending. Maybe I’ve just grown cynical.
