The Tax Man Cometh

Tomorrow is the deadline for filing your 2011 taxes in the US. Maybe you owe money and dread writing that check. Or maybe you just realized that you never got your W-2.

Really though, if you haven’t filed by now you might as well just send in an extension and go back to whatever Master of Procrastination activity you’ve been doing for the last three months. If you’re bound and determined to get them done today; Go, get off the internet, what are you doing here? For everyone else, here is a game. Rewrite the tax code. How would you make it “fair”. Also or alternately what would you fund or defund?

Opium Dreams: Girls Pilot

Picture this: You’re 24 and two years out of college with nothing to show for it except an unpaid internship you have been at for over a year. You get by on your parents’ monthly donation and do not expect that to end anytime in the foreseeable future. You live with your best friend, Marnie, who happens to be dating a guy she can hardly stand but keeps him around for, well, we don’t know why she keeps him around. Your friend, Jessa, has just moved back to New York City from Paris and is all long blonde hair and oozes bohemian sex vibes. Jessa is staying with her cousin, Shoshanna, who could be accurately described as a “Sex and the City Victim.” You know the type, thinking life is going to full of pink drinks and mind-blowing sex, thanks to Carrie Bradshaw and her cohorts. Lastly, there’s your fuck buddy, Adam. He routinely ignores your texts and is an unsatisfying lover anyway.

Meet Hannah Horvath. This is her story. Continue reading →

That’s because Trinity Jam is made up of Patty Schemel, Melissa Auf Der Mar and Eric Erlandson. And when their former band mate got on the stage for a few songs, it really became an event; that former band mate is Courtney Love and suddenly, at a bar in Brooklyn on a Friday night in April, Hole was reunited.

The reason for this somewhat impromptu happening was the after party for a documentary called Hit So Hard; The Life and Near Death Story of Patty Schemel, which opened this week in New York (the Cinema Village showings on Friday night were sold out). Continue reading →

Watch M83’s Entire Set From Coachella

We live in amazing times. Within a day of M83’s by-all-accounts-amazing set Friday night at Coachella, high quality videos of the entire set were up on Youtube. Most concert footage posted on the internet is utter crap, but in this case whoever shot these apparently had access to the soundboards because the audio sounds great. Oh, and the set is split into four video, so I embedded them as a playlist and they’ll all play together.
