QOTD: Do You Remember Anything Positive About 9/11?

Today is a day that I won’t turn on the news or the television. I cannot handle the grief porn that will inevitably spew out of the media. I choose to remember 9/11 a different way.

I choose to remember how we came together as a nation, overlooked our differences and helped one another. I was actually in France over 9/11 and couldn’t get back to Bermuda where we were living at the time. We ended up in London. I was there when “God Bless America” was played in front of Buckingham Palace. I had people stop me in the streets and tell me how sorry they were after hearing me speak in my American accent to my 2 year old and 6 month old children. I remember the kindness.

One of my favorite quotes is from Fred Rogers about the helpers he sees during a tragedy and how it comforts him.

When I was a boy and I would see scary things in the news, my mother would say to me, “Look for the helpers. You will always find people who are helping.” To this day, especially in times of “disaster,” I remember my mother’s words and I am always comforted by realizing that there are still so many helpers – so many caring people in this world.“

What good you remember coming out of this tragedy?
