Dear Andrew Luck

Dear Andrew Luck,

You don’t know me, but I know you. As a matter of fact, I know more about you than is probably healthy or not weird, considering we’ve never met, nor are likely to.

Tomorrow night, NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell will go on stage at Radio City Music Hall in New York City, and a member of the Indianapolis Colts organization will hand him a card with your name on it. He will stand before God and the World and announce that with the first overall pick in the 2012 NFL Draft, the Indianapolis Colts select Andrew Luck, Quarterback, Stanford University.

Indiana’s Little 500: The World’s Greatest College Weekend

“I’ve attended Super Bowls, World Series’, and the Monaco Grand Prix, but the coolest event I ever attended was the Little 500.” – Lance Armstrong –

The official description of the Little 500 is that it is an intramural relay-style bicycle race held annually at Indiana University, in which riders compete in teams of four and ride for 200 laps, or approximately 50 miles. Continue reading

Sharks Player Cheats and NHL Doesn’t Care

In a Thursday night game against the LA Kings, San Jose Sharks player Ryane Clowe was sitting on the bench when he reached over the wall with his stick and tapped the puck. The illegal move was not caught by officials at the time and after reviewing the play the NHL has decided not to fine Clowe. The reasoning is that if it had been caught during the game it would only have been a minor infraction. Watch the action after the break. Continue reading

Your Day Two NCAA Tournament Viewing Guide

After a day in which the NCAA tournament mostly followed form, with only a handful of upsets, we begin the day with 48 teams left in the tournament. By this time tomorrow, 16 more squads will pack it in for home. Today brings us another full slate of games to that end, with the usual overlap required to play that many games in 12 hours. Where should your eyes land, if you’re lucky enough to be home and preparing for St. Patrick’s Day?  Continue reading

Your Day One NCAA Tournament Viewing Guide

With the field of 64 now set, the real fun begins bright and early on Thursday. Once again, the NCAA is working with multiple cable partners to ensure that every game appears on television. If you own or live at a bar, this is great news for you on top of the fact that you own or live at a bar. For the rest of us watching from home, it means being judicious with the remote, lest you miss something truly exciting. Not having tru TV (like a good chunk of Americans) helps too.

Also helpful? Our second annual Crasstalk NCAA Opening Round Viewers Guide. Yes, I know the NCAA now considers Thursday and Friday ‘Round 2’ because of the First Four BS, but that’s not flying around here. Now, where to land on Thursday: Continue reading

Baldwin’s NBA Half Season Report: The East Edition

Hello everybody, and welcome to the Eastern Conference half of the half-season NBA review. The Western Conference part can be found here and I must say that the last week’s results have only solidified the opinions I gave on the West. Especially Spurs over Clippers and the two big wins for Golden State over quality opposition. Continue reading

Rick Santorum Surges Into NASCAR

The Florida GOP primary may be a distant and not-too-grand memory for Rick Santorum, but an important and much more widely followed Florida event has attracted ol’ Ricky’s attention today. If you happen across Santorum’s name emblazoned across a perpetually left-turning vehicle on the television today, it’s not your hangover. That’s right, the sometimes-leader in the GOP presidential primary death-match has purchased a sponsorship of a car in today’s Daytona 500.  Continue reading

Baldwin’s (Almost) Half-Season NBA Report: The West Edition

(A quick note from Bots: Baldwin’s post is only tangentially related to the Denver Nuggets’ old 90s logo but I always liked its Disco Tetris vibe, so we’re using it!)

With all teams having played between 28 and 32 out of the 66 games they will play in the compressed 123 day regular season, and time ticking down to the trade deadline, it’s a good time to take a look at where each team is, the answered questions, the unanswered questions, and maybe take a sneaky peek towards the playoffs. Continue reading
