2013 MTV Video Music Awards Live Blog

moon-manThe last time I watched the MTV VMAs it was to live blog it for you people. I had a good time watching and making fun… I think. Though from what I remember there were lots of fast cuts and it was clearly geared at people younger than me. I didn’t feel the need to watch it last year, but the rumors of an *NSYNC reunion have piqued my interest. I guess I have to watch and see if it actually happens.

You win MTV!

I’ll be posting here and responding to comments. Can’t wait to see what everyone thinks!

Obviously, there will be spoilers after the jump. Continue reading

From the Message Board to the Studio: Introducing Her Royal Harness

album_400Everyday on Crasstalk we reach out to each other, strangers from vastly different walks of life, people who live a couple miles or thousands of miles away, for a chat, for guidance, or a laugh. Sometimes those moments turn into a professional contacts, sometimes they turn into fun, shallow friendships, and, sometimes, on very rare occasions, those moments can turn into the most important relationship of your life.

That’s the wonderful side of the internet.

The not so wonderful side is comprised of the misunderstandings, the battles, and the nastiness that can spin totally out of control when people have the protection of anonymity. The places populated by people who would rather shout into a hole in a wall and proclaim their rightness or their horribleness just to make someone else feel small.

That’s the other side of the internet. Continue reading

Why is Hollywood trying to kill Pacific Rim?

I originally wrote a draft of this piece about a week ago, before the first round of reviews of Guillermo del Toro’s Monsters Vs. Robots epic, Pacific Rim, hit the internet. I scrapped it because after the very positive reviews hit, I figured that Pacific Rim was back on track for a monster opening weekend.

Instead, I came across another hit piece from Variety pegging Pacific Rim for a lackluster opening, underperforming against Grown-Ups 2.

So, I decided to resurrect the premise and ask: why is Hollywood trying to kill Pacific Rim? Continue reading

Top Music Videos With Sexy Supermodels Werking It

Justin Timberlake recently released the totally not safe for work video for Tunnel Vision, the third video from 20/20, and frankly, it’s disappointing. Boring and disappointing. If he cared at all about the comparisons being made between him and Robin Thicke, JT’s video featuring three beautiful, nearly nude women aimlessly prancing and writhing around certainly will not help. However, where the women in Thicke’s totally not safe for work video are instant video icons, JT’s are literally like moving wallpaper. It’s a real missed opportunity.

As listed after the jump, there are plenty of examples of other artists having used models to great effect. Study up, this generation of people making music videos! Continue reading

Accordions Are Not Cool

accordian_girlMy mother is cleaning out the attic, and dredging up memories that best lie undisturbed until that hoarder’s delight is at long last razed.

“Guess what I found,” she called and crowed to me.

“What.”

“Your accordion!”

Yes. My goddamn accordion,

I’d long dreamed, as a girl, of playing the piano. I’d seen the old black-and-white movies, where a glamorous blonde in an evening gown shimmies to a grand piano, sweeps the audience with a bold, saucy blue set of eyes, and preforms something beautiful by Mozart with her gorgeous long fingers. Instead, when it came to time to torture her children with musical instruments, I was assigned the accordion. Continue reading
