Where Are We Going, and What’s with the Handbasket?

Those of us on the American coasts may be familiar with a website network called Patch. Basically it’s a blog covering extremely local news.  It’s a great way to stay current on local events, politics and shopping.  My local version is Long Beach, NY.  Since our local paper is owned by the local cable network, it’s refreshing to get a different perspective on things.

Arizona Still Has Nothing on Florida’s Brand of Crazy

Living in Florida is, how do I put this, interesting. On the one hand, I am 45 minutes away from the beach (Gulf of Mexico and Atlantic Ocean), I have access to tons of lakes, and there are tons of Latinos (my people!). On the other hand, you have Casey Anthony, the astronaut lady that drove for over 24 hours with an adult diaper on, and Rick Scott.

Rick Scott, our esteemed governor, has a 29% approval rating. He’s been in office for less than a year, and in his short tenure has cost the state over 100,000 jobs, high-speed rail funding, and any attempt to rein in urban sprawl.

Since Mr. Scott is so unpopular, I guess he’s been feeling lonely and unloved. So what did he do? He posted a letter on his website that you can copy/paste and send to the editors of your major (or hometown) newspapers, telling them what a swell guy Rick is. Continue reading

War For Profit In Bougainville

“It is my opinion that absent Rio Tinto’s mining activity on Bougainville or its insistence that the Panguna mine be re-opened, the government would not have engaged in hostilities or taken military action on the island.”

”Because of Rio Tinto’s financial influence in PNG, the company controlled the government.”

”The government of PNG followed Rio Tinto’s instructions and carried out its requests … BCL was directly involved in the military operations on Bougainville, and it played an active role. BCL supplied helicopters, which were used as gunships, the pilots, troop transportation, fuel and troop barracks.”

Roy Innis and the Demise of The Congress on Racial Equality

A few years ago I did some freelance transcription work while I was unemployed.  One gig I had was someone’s college thesis from 1979.  The topic was CORE, the Congress on Racial Equality, which was responsible for the Journey of Reconciliation in 1947 and the Freedom Rides in 1961, both important events in the civil rights movement. Porn Mogul Larry Flynt Offers Weiner a Job

Larry Flynt is a man not unfamiliar with the experience of an overly puritan society getting all pissy with you because you wanted to take some sexy photos and show them to the public. It’s perhaps not surprising, then, that Flynt offered Anthony Weiner a job with the internet group of his Flynt Management Group, LLC just hours after the now former Congressman resigned yesterday over revelations that he too has a fondness of taking photographs of a “romantic” nature.  Continue reading

No One Should Take Andrew Breitbart Seriously

In what kind of bizarro dimension would Andrew Breitbart continue to be taken seriously as a newsman despite his obvious lack of credibility and well documented history of lying and falsifying evidence? Unfortunately we’re living in that dimension and it’s becoming just all too ridiculous. With Anthony Weiner’s resignation all but confirmed it would seem that Breitbart has quashed yet another source of progressivism in American society. So long as American media continue to indulge Breitbart’s vile output he will remain a poisonous influence on public discourse and society at large. For the American public to save itself  they must stop taking Breitbart seriously. Sarah Palin Writes Like an 8th Grader and Why This Isn’t as Funny as it Sounds

I’m not poring over all 24,000 Sarah Palin emails. That’s just lunacy. Especially since the political wonder team of Ashton Kutcher and Demi Moore think it’s a repulsive thing to do, because if you can’t use Kutcher and Moore as a barometer then you’re just doomed. But one thing that caught my eye is what’s been reported about her writing ability. You would think that the same person who wrote speaking notes on her palm and who has a habit of saying the equivalent of monkey-speech after being hit in the head with a log, could barely pick up a pen without becoming confused – But you would be wrong, so very wrong.
