QOTD: 2011 on the Small Screen

Little-known secret about me: I really like TV. But whatevs, who doesn’t, right? Sadly (although not really, because most have passed their prime long ago), many landmark shows are either in, entering, or just had their final seasons, but as seminal rock band Semisonic once taught us, every new beginning comes from some other beginning’s end, right? And so, Desperate Housewives might be ending, but Ringer is just beginning. Chuck is done, but 2 Broke Girls, the little racist show that could, is but a newborn babe. (Seriously though, if you fast forward past the racism, it’s a good show!) And so, of course, the Question of the Day: What’s Your Favorite New Show of 2011? Continue reading

QOTD: Tasting 2011

Hi kids! Know where I am today? If you said “sitting at your desk at home like you are every other day,” you are incorrect! I am currently on vacation, and on tap for today is a visit to what’s supposed to be one of the best restaurants* in the country. I’ve had a bunch of great culinary experiences in 2011, mainly because my husband discovered that he loves to cook and bake, but I expect this one to top them all. And so, the Question of the Day: Be it cooking, eating, dining, or watching the Food Network, what was your best culinary experience of 2011? Continue reading

QOTD: Hey DJ

“If music be the food of love, play on!” Mmm, musical sustenance… so very, very important. 2011 was a huge year for artists such as Adele (21), Coldplay (Mylo Xyloto, people suddenly unironically liking Chris Martin), Lady Gaga (The Immaculate Collection Born This Way), and Rihanna (Loud), but also some good ones! (I kid, I kid!) And so…

Question of the Day: What was your favorite song released in 2011? Continue reading

QOTD: No, Really, ‘Tis Better to Receive

Oh hi there! Are you stressed out? Got a lot on your plate? Have so much to think about that you couldn’t possibly add anything else into the mix? Too bad, because Chanukah and Christmas are in less than three weeks! Gift-buying stress and impending family gatherings for everybody!

Fortunately, there’s at least one very, very good part about those two holidays, because really, who doesn’t like free stuff? And so, to get us in the gift-receiving spirit, today’s Question of the Day: What’s the best gift you received in 2011? Continue reading

QOTD: A Celebration of 2011

Why, hello there! My, how quickly this year’s gone! December already? That’s madness! MADNESS!

However, since this year is coming to a close, whether we’re ready for it or not, I thought it might be nice to devote the QOTDs of December to the glory of the past year. Or, if your year sucked, to the few good things that helped us all get to 2012. For me, it was actually a pretty big year–a year of changes, and, as every year is in some way, a year of firsts. And so, the Question of the Day:

What did you do for the first time in 2011? Continue reading

QOTD: Would You Survive the Apocalypse?

I love watching post-apocalypse movies, but sometimes I get to wondering: how useful would I be if I found myself living in a post-apocalyptic world?

As we see on The Walking Dead, there’s always washing and cooking to be done.  However, anyone able-bodied can wash stuff, and even if you can’t really cook you could peel potatoes, so there’d be an abundant supply of washers and kitchen-workers, so my abilities there wouldn’t necessarily make me worth feeding if things got tight.  I could teach the children, but then so could any adult who can remember a reasonable amount of what they learned in school.

I’m a good organiser, so maybe I could be the quarter-master.  Give me a room with some shelves to set out all the camp’s stock and I could mete it out like a sonofabitch. Continue reading
