QOTD: What is Your Favorite Simpsons Episode of All Time?

This past Sunday, The Simpsons aired its 500th episode, just another milestone for the longest-running sitcom in American television. Critics and bloggers and internet nerds have spent the past few days reminiscing about the glory days of the show (which, in my opinion, were seasons 3-8) when every episode was a slam dunk. This, of course, gave me an excuse to spend all day on YouTube looking up classic clips. Continue reading

QOTD: How Far Have You Come From The Place You Were Born?

There are so many different ways you can answer this question. You could decide it’s about a philosophical journey, about the change in your political beliefs compared to the beliefs in your parents, the movement in your socio-economic status. You could be a bit more literal and calculate how far you’ve traveled. For example, I estimate that I’ve walked, jogged and run far enough to go around the world at the equator, let alone distance covered in planes, trains and automobiles. Continue reading

QOTD: What’s Your Plan?

While in New Orleans over the weekend one of my friends mentioned to me that she has a new 1- and 5-year plans. I was a little shocked because this particular friend never seemed like too much of a planner. She got laid off last year and instead of trying to become a cog in another machine, she decided to go her own way. I think this life change has forced her to look further ahead than she might have normally. When she brought it up, a light bulb went off in my head. I’ve been feeling sort of restless (for lack of a better word) in my life lately. Having some long-term plans that I need to hold myself accountable for seems like it will make me work for the things that I actually want.

So far this is what I have: Continue reading

QOTD: What’s the Most Expensive Item of Clothing You’ve Ever Purchased?

On this especially, non-special “holiday”, many people will be spending truckloads of money to make their lovers happy. As a perpetually single slore, that’s not my concern. I want to know about money spent on yourself. Making you look fabulous for that mate you may or may not have/find. Continue reading

QOTD: Lessons Learned

You’ve done the home work, the affirmations, the congratulations, the adorations. You’ve stared clear-eyed and clear-headed in the mirror, you’ve told yourself that you’re good enough, you’re smart enough, and gosh darn it, people like you. And yet, you catch yourself telling yourself the same old negative story. What gives?

Today, I noticed an online news article about someone I went to high school with. We were more acquaintances than friends. I think we might have hung out socially once or twice in the four years I knew him. He’s someone who was on “the slow track” when we were in high school. Socially awkward, he sort of hung around the fringe of society. He was not in any honors classes, didn’t take part in any of the “bleeding edge” things our school was doing in the sciences, never stood in front of the student body to receive a varsity letter for his jacket, or any official award or commendation for that matter, and he certainly wasn’t in the “Who’s Who in American High Schools” book. Just a normal guy, did his time and got out. Continue reading
