I am Canadian and of questionable mental health. Owing to the fact that I'm in my early 20s my opinions are entirely worthless. Planning on making the jump from amateur student to professional one within the next year.

Monday Headlines

I was originally going to start today’s post with something about how it is shaping up to be a beautiful day here in the Golden Horseshoe but I can no longer as something terrible has happened to ruin my day. Tremendous politician and all around good guy Jack Layton (pictured above) has lost his battle to cancer at the age of 61. Layton was the leader of the New Democrat Party here in Canada, the country’s “third” and unabashedly socialist party; however, the NDP had recently routed the Liberals to become the official opposition in parliament. Today, pour one out for one of the good ones.

Friday Morning Headlines

So The Markets are freaking out again. I feel like Markets should be capitalized because “the markets” has become this phrase you hear all the time now, some presumed entity with a will of its own. News anchors will say things like “let’s see what the markets are doing,” or “the markets are not responding well to this news,” like they’re talking about some unruly sentient being, a deranged stallion to which all our fates are tied.

  • Homeland Security has announced a new deportation policy that will allow many illegal immigrants to stay in the US.
  • An Egyptian border guard has been killed in an Israeli raid on militants.
  • HP will no longer be making PCs and shitty laptops.
  • British Council offices have been bombed in the Afghan capital.

Wednesday Morning Headlines

President Barack Obama concluded his three-day bus tour yesterday and give this interview with Wolf Blitzer on CNN.  The set is supposed to be some kind of machine shop with an American flag on the wall. Also, when the camera is on Obama there are various tools and pieces of equipment associated with general manufacturing and industrial jobs. They really are trying to convince us that Obama is very serious about jobs. Look he even did an interview in a machine shop!

Monday Morning Headlines

Those riots in London are still being milked for front page stuff today, according to the BBC. What were they even rioting about? Okay, it seems as though the police have killed someone and a protest over said death got out of hand, that’s why. But I also  think that rioting has become sort of mainstream, it’s kind of just acceptable to riot sometimes now. Everyone’s doing it! It’s an internet sensation like planking except it has horrendously destructive and violent consequences in real life, which is pretty uncool so if you’re going to go crazy and burn something let it be the sweet Mary Jane brothers and sisters, amen. Gather round and get your headlines inside.  Continue reading

Wednesday Morning Headlines

Newt Gingrich may have a 92% fake following rate on Twitter or he may not, it doesn’t really matter. What I mean to say is that this isn’t something anyone should be worrying about, not even Newt Gingrich himself, the followee in question. But Newt did care. The sad, old man cared enough about his number of Twitter followers that he probably paid some company to juice his stats. He thought that that’s what mattered. Just like the rest of us, Newt was too concerned with checking his Twitter account instead of focusing on the important stuff. We also, of course, completely validated Newt’s initial concern over his number of followers by caring enough to unearth the fraud. So this proves that it’s the norm now to be addicted to the internet to the detriment of your own well being. That is the norm. Okay, here are your headlines.  Continue reading

Friday Morning Headlines

The Seattle Post-Intelligencer is probably the weirdest name for a newspaper I’ve ever heard but It sounds weirdly relevant to today’s world, which often seems “post-intelligent.” Take Rebekah Brooks, for example, the News International CEO who did some pretty stupid things and resigned today over her involvement of the ever worsening News of the World telephonic ethics scandal. More headlines inside!

Thursday Morning Headlines

What’s up, you guys? Are you loving summer or what? It’s awesome isn’t it? No season beats Summer, except for maybe Autumn or Spring. And Winter has it’s certain charms too, I suppose. Anyway, Summer is great though. My face and chest are taking on that mid-July toasty reddish-tan quality and on Monday I went to Canada’s Wonderland, a theme park here in Southern Ontario and I rode a bunch of roller coasters and I fucking love roller coasters. Enough about me though, let’s turn to the roller coaster that is life and see what the headlines are saying. These are fresh of the rack this morning so dig in! Continue reading

Thursday Morning Headlines

Well the new royal couple is visiting Canada right now and it seems like every time I look at the news it’s about them and I hate that and I hate them. Today they visited Slave Lake, Alberta, a community that was devastated by wild fires recently. Oh yeah, great, thanks guys that’s exactly what those people want right now to have two aristocrats paraded in front of them whom have never done anything and are obscenely wealthy while they have probably worked their asses off all their lives and they had their houses burned down by wildfires. They probably feel so much better about their situation now, thanks, really.
