Beauty Treatments Using Common Household Items

potatoes_make_you_beautifylIf you like pampering yourself with beauty treatments but hate spending tons of money on product, you might be excited to learn that there are a ton of beauty products just waiting to be created in your kitchen and home. Here are a few of my favorite recipes for beauty treatments with ingredients found in most kitchens.

Egg Yolk Conditioning Hair Mask

This is an easy and nourishing hair mask that helps condition your hair, helps prevent breakage and increases shine.

  • One large egg yolk
  • One tablespoon of olive oil (I sometimes substitute almond oil because I prefer the smell.)

Mix in a bowl, coat clean hair thoroughly focusing on the ends. Wrap your hair in a plastic bag and let sit for 10 – 15 minutes. Rinse out well.

Brown Sugar Facial Scrub

  • Two tablespoons of brown sugar
  • One tablespoon of honey
  • One tablespoon of almond oil

In this recipe, the measurements are all fairly approximate. It’s all about a consistency that you feel comfortable. Mix it up in a small bowl until the brown sugar is wet but not dissolved. Then slowly pat on your face and scrub with your fingers, avoiding the eye area. You can also use this as a lip scrub.

Avocado Moisturizing Face Mask

  • Small overripe avocado
  • One tablespoon honey

There are a ton of benefits for using avocado for your face. This mask is very nourishing for dry or sun-damaged skin. Mash the avocado and honey together until it turns into a paste. You can spread this over your face and let sit for about 15-20 minutes before rinsing off and admiring how glowing and healthy your skin looks.

Baking Soda Exfoliant

  • 3 tablespoons of baking soda
  • Water

Sometimes you just need to exfoliate your skin. Instead of buying a ton of fancy exfoliants, you can use plain old baking soda and water. Mix together to create a paste and gently use it to scrub your face, moving in a small circular motion with your fingertips and avoiding the sensitive skin around your eyes. Remember not to overexfoliate!
