Pretty Little Liars S3:E20 Recap: Why is Ezra Still Alive?

Prettylittleliarsletters

Pretty Little Liars returned a few weeks back from its mid-season break. We’re into episode 20 of season three and the most inappropriate relationships for a teenage-centric show are still going strong.

Cray cray Mona has been released from psychiatric care. Spencer discovered (SPOILER) that Toby (TOBY!!) was part of A’s entourage. And Ezra is away bonding with his unknown-up-until-now son, Malcolm, leaving Aria to make bambi doe eyes for his younger brother, Wesley. Just a typical day in a Rosewood neighbourhood.

Before proceeding to recap the latest episode and for those unfamiliar with the show, PLL, revolves around 4 friends, Spencer, Aria, Hanna and Emily, who are attempting to figure out who killed their queen bee of mean, Alison DiLaurentis. To complicate matters, they are each being tormented via text messages by a mysterious “A.” If only getting rid of one’s cellphone was that easy.

Last week’s episode saw the further unhinging of Spencer. Generally regarded as the most bright and ambitious of the 4, her world has been unraveling since the departure of her one-true-love and apparent A minion, Toby. Emily missed another near-death experience by escaping an elevator shaft to watch it plummet with Jason, Alison’s brother, trapped inside. No worries, non-watchers, he only ended up with a broken arm, a bruised lip, and perfect hair before seemingly being capable of walking out of his hospital room when no one was looking.

This week’s episode begins with the 4 girls chatting over coffee trying to figure out why their adolescence hasn’t largely involved addictions to Adderall and pointless Facebook updates. Detective Darren Wilden interrupts their casual chit-chat on who is trying to murder them to inquire on Jason’s whereabouts. Hanna foolishly brings up Cece Drake. Bad move, Hanna, bad move. Partly since I have yet to figure out Cece’s motive, but nothing good comes from a typical evening in Rosewood.

detective darrenI’d be scared of a floating head, too.

Hanna goes on to foolishly inform her mother, Ashley and the primary sole responsible parent on the show, other than Emily’s mother, that she thinks Detective Wilden was Alison’s baby daddy. Hanna can’t seem to keep a secret.

Inappropriately aged Ezra for under-aged Aria is back. I hate this storyline. Snoozefest.

It’s Paily! Emily’s girlfriend, Paige, and Hanna’s boyfriend, Caleb, have been working together to uncover A’s true identity. Emily and Hanna are having none of it and force their way into joining Paige on her next hunt for clues at the Rosewood Costume Store. Something something about trying to figure out who wore the queen of hearts costume.

pailyDo you think she’s driving a Subaru Toyota?

Inappropriately aged Ezra’s 1% mother, Mrs. Fitz-Scary, is paying under-aged Aria a visit. Why can’t A torment the Fitzgerald’s?

The doctor Wren, who was once engaged to Spencer’s sister, Melissa, before starting a relationship with Spencer, is asking her out for dinner. God, don’t these professional grown-ups have friends who can talk them out of dating high school students? Or threaten to call the police? Time to fast-forward.

Oh no, Paily is arguing over Emily’s sneakiness for emailing customer purchasing records at the Costume Store. Now Paige is declaring her love. I like these two.

Oh no, the woman in red has made a reappearance. Is Alison even dead?

lady in redI get the feeling she won’t be dancing with anyone cheek to cheek.

Oh no, Hanna’s mom, Ashley, is now being followed and harassed by creepy Detective Wilden. She responds by driving over him. Well played??

Oh no, Spencer is trapped in a scorching sauna. Is her scary sister, Melissa, behind it all? And what is up with Melissa’s transformation into a 40 year old soccer mom?

Oh no, “A” (Toby?) is finalizing a mourning flower arrangement.

sympathyLet it be for Ezra.
