SAG Award Nominations: Modern Family Will Continue to Be Nominated Until the End of Time

Urgh. Haven’t we all had enough of Modern Family? Sure, yes, it was a zingy little show that gave us interesting people who did funny things for a certain amount of time. But now, yes, now? It’s getting a little long in the comedy tooth for copious award nods is it not? Apparently the SAG Award voting block doesn’t seem to think so. On shall the Modern Family horse ride out into the desert wasteland of situation comedy until there is nothing left but Eric Stonestreet in a clown costume scaring the beejesus out of Zooey Deschanel.

Another television note. The Office, really guys? We’re going to chop this up to the “Thanks for the memories!” nomination and move on. And no nod for Game of Thrones, yet Boardwalk Empire which has a tendency to meander into the weeds during the episodes, still gets a nod? Feh.

As far as feature films go, that little indie pic about semi-damaged people and the ensemble who loves them, Silver Linings Playbook isn’t doing so badly. It gained noms for Bradley Cooper, Jennifer Lawrence, and Robert DeNiro in addition to the movie itself. So, good on ya! However, we’re unsurprised by noms for Lincoln, Les Miserables, and Argo. Those were easy to see coming down the pike.

But what we really care about are the snubs, right? Right. Here are a few, the women taking the brunt:
Zooey Deschanel
Christina Hendricks
Elisabeth Moss
The Emmy-winning Julia Louis-Dreyfuss for Veep
and Lena Dunham

For the men:

Joaquin Phoenix who did himself no favors with his “I don’t care about awards” tirade we can assume.
Bill Murray
Christoph Waltz
and Anthony Hopkins

Matthew McConaughey will just have to be satisfied that people took his Magic Mike showing seriously enough to get talked about regarding big award nods. We’ll see what happens later in the season.

Here’s the entire list.
