The Rundown – NFL Week 13

TrophyFor the last quarter of the season The Rundown will be switching to Sunday mornings in a blatant attempt to spur conversation. I’ll be doing a preview of some of the most important match ups of the week instead of doing a review of the previous week’s action. See what I did there? I added a “p”. Mr. and Mrs. Ross are still making picks and while Thursday’s wasn’t posted you will have to take my word for it we both picked the Broncos. Anyway, on to The Rundown.

Cowboys/Bengals – This is an extremely important game for both teams. The Cowboys are still in the hunt for the NFC East title and the Bengals are trying to overtake the Steelers for one of the wildcard spots in the AFC. Both teams are on the outside looking in and, in addition to winning, will need some help to get into the postseason. BenJarvus Green-Ellis (The Law Firm) has been coming on strong for the Bengals in the last few weeks. The Combination of Dalton to Green is one of the best young quarterback/receiver tandems in the NFL. Romo is…Romo, the Cowboys are a .500 team and I don’t see that changing anytime soon. If this game were being held in Dallas I would say this is a definite Bengals win (seriously, the Cowboys are TERRIBLE in their new stadium) but since it is in Cincinnati I give them a punchers chance. Still I think the Bengals win in the end – Bengals over Cowboys.

Bears/Vikings – The Bears are in danger of flaming out before the postseason due to a rash of injuries. They have lost 3 of their last 4 and need to stop the spiral downward before they play themselves right out of contention. At 6-6 the Vikings are probably not going to the playoffs but by finishing the season strong they could have something to build on for next year. The Bears need this game desperately just to tread water, a loss puts a bunch of NFC teams into play for a wild card spot, including the Vikings. Injuries are sinking the Bears and this game is being played in the Dome. – Vikings over Bears.

Ravens/Redskins – The unstoppable force (RGIII) meets the formerly immovable object (the Ravens defense). RGIII is doing the improbable for a rookie and trying to lead his team into the playoffs. He actually has them in the hunt for the NFC East title (Disclosure – Andrew Luck has the Colts in a wild card spot in the AFC). RGIII is lightning on the field. The Ravens defense is pretty beat up and I have to question how effective Terrell Suggs can be playing with a torn bicep (Is he insane?). Despite their position in the playoff seedings, I don’t trust this Ravens team… mainly because Flacco is so inconsistent. Dear Joe Flacco, you can’t just declare yourself an elite quarterback. Redskins over Ravens.

Texans/Patriots – Monday night’s game is your game of the week. The NFL gets lucky every now and then this time of the year and for once we will not be getting a Monday night stinker. The Texans need this game because nobody believes in them. Well, I believe in the Texans, I believe they are destined for the AFC Championship game. Having said that, Tom Brady is still one of the best quarterbacks in the league and picking against him is tough to justify. Andre Johnson needs to have a big game against a Patriots secondary that is still a little suspect, but in the end I think Brady pulls out a victory. Patriots over Texans.
