Paul Ryan Continues to Show the “Grace” and “Maturity” He’s Known For

Oh, we’re just joking. He shows neither of those things.

Paul Ryan got a bit testy and snotty today when a local reporter of Flint, Michigan’s ABC12 deigned ask him about gun control and tax cuts as a follow-up question as it related to supporting community programs and charities to in Ryan’s words, “Help people in inner cities have more opportunities so they won’t resort to gun violence.” We would also like to tell Paul that inner cities aren’t the only places where there is gun violence.

The interview was abruptly ended and then Ryan accuses the interviewer of asking a strange question and “stuffing words” in his mouth. We note it was Ryan who started talking about ways to avoid gun violence without actually speaking about guns themselves. The interviewer fished to find out how Ryan would propose doing that. Tax cuts? Oh, Paul. Even if the interviewer took a leap, which is what news reporters sometimes do, it’s interesting to see how flustered you get when a question doesn’t go your way. Remember the question about the Romney/Ryan tax plan that would “take too long to go through all of the math?”

Uh-huh. So now a left field question is part of “Gotcha Media” that you can’t find a suitable way of handling we suppose? Ryan spokesman Brendan Buck tells BuzzFeed:

“The reporter knew he was already well over the allotted time for the interview when he decided to ask a weird question relating gun violence to tax cuts. Ryan responded as anyone would in such a strange situation. When you do nearly 200 interviews in a couple months, eventually you’re going to see a local reporter embarrass himself.”

We like how your handlers use the term “weird question” and how it “embarrasses” the interviewer, it gives it that special je ne sais quoi of professionalism and taking the high road we’ve come to expect from Paul Ryan.

Hey! Good luck at the debate!
