64th Primetime Emmys Liveblog

It’s time! The red carpet has been rolled out. From R to L: Academy CEO & Chairman Bruce Rosenblum, this year’s host Jimmy Kimmel, Executive Producer Don Mischer, and some union laborer — a non-special who emmys.com didn’t think it was important to name. Are you ready for Television’s Biggest Night™? Me neither, but let’s humor one another.

We’ll start by watching E!’s coverage of the red carpet at 6pm. The awards telecast will begin at 8pm on ABC.

Familiarize yourself with tonight’s nominees here.

You can check out the list of this year’s Shmemmy winners here.

Here’s a roundup of predictions:

Ken Tucker at EW.

Alison Willmore at Indiewire.

Dan Fienberg and Alan Sepinwall at Hit Fix.

Margaret Lyons and Denise Martin at Vulture.

Joyce Eng at TV Guide.

What are your predictions? Will Mad Men continue to make history and pick up its fifth Best Drama trophy? Is this Christina Hendricks’ year? Is Claire Danes a sure bet? Give us your take below.

I’ll be updating during the telecast!

8:03 – Have I mentioned that I hate Jimmy Kimmel? Not yet? Oh, well I do. The opening skit was alright I guess. Ellen was the best part.

8:06 – Already one Honey Boo Boo reference, one Mitt Romney reference and one Chick Fil-A reference. So current!

8:07 – This opening monologue is excruciating.

8:11 – First stupid montage is out of the way. Comedy.

8:13 – Best Supporting Actor in a Comedy Modern Family goes to Eric Stonestreet.

8:21 – Best Writer, Comedy Series goes to Louis C.K.

8:22 – Old timey reimagining of Breaking Bad is obvious and not funny.

8:24 – Best Supporting Actress in a Comedy goes to Julie Bowen. Do we care? Is it going to be another Modern Family sweep this year? Bowen’s acceptance speech is painful.

8:31 – Matthew Perry is here to announce two awards that have already been given out. This will be the saddest portion of the telecast.

8:32 – Kathy Bates and Jimmy Fallon won Best Guest Actress and Guest Actor respectively.

8:35 – Best Director of a Comedy goes to Steve Levitan for Modern Family. Modern Family’s reign of Emmy terror continues.

8:39 – Best Actor in a Comedy goes to Jon Cryer for Two and Half Men. NO1CURR.

8:46 – Best Actress in a Comedy goes to Julia Louis Dreyfus for Veep.

8:48 – Julia Louis Dreyfus is the first person played off the stage, but it was worth it for the funny bit she did with Amy Poehler, mixing up their acceptance speeches.

8:49 – Reality TV montage!

8:52 – Best Reality Competition Program goes to The Amazing Race. Really? Is it 2002? This is awful.

9:00 – Best Reality Host goes to Tom Bergeron for Dancing with the Stars.

9:02 – Drama Montage is dramatic.

9:05 – Best Supporting Actor in a Drama goes to Aaron Paul for Breaking Bad. I’m so glad Breaking Bad took this, but damn Giancarlo Esposito was robbed.

9:15 – Best Writer, Drama goes to the writers of Homeland, with Alex Gansa accepting.

9:16 – They got played off so fast it’s not even funny. Move along, writers.

9:17 – Best Supporting Actress in a Drama goes to Maggie Smith for Downton Abbey. Christina Hendricks and her breasts were robbed!

9:24 – Jeremy Davies and Martha Plimpton won Best Guest Actor and Actress in a Comedy.

9:25 – Best Director, Drama goes to Tim Van Patten.

9:26 – Ridiculous In Memoriam joke montage is ridiculous.

9:27 – Best Actor in a Drama goes to Damian Lewis for Homeland. This is bullshit. Jon Hamm and Bryan Cranston were robbed!

9:38 – Best Actress in a Drama goes to Claire Danes for Homeland. Sorry, but I just don’t see it. I have tried to watch Homeland, and it’s alright I guess, but I’m surprised that it’s doing so well tonight.

9:40 – Variety montage is varied.

9:45 – Best Variety Special goes to Louis C.K. Live at the Beacon Theatre.

9:52 – Best Director for a Variety Special goes to Glenn Weiss for the Tony Awards.

9:56 – Best Variety Series goes to The Daily Show.

9:58 – Jon Stewart says a dirty word. I guess that’s something.

10:03 – Miniseries or Movie montage is vry srs.

10:06 – Best Supporting Actress in a Movie or Miniseries goes to Jessica Lange for American Horror Story. True story, I started typing her name before he said it because, rly, who else was it going to be?

10:14 – Best Supporting Actor in a Movie or Miniseries goes to Tom Berenger for Hatfields & McCoys.

10:17 – Opie memorializes Andy Griffith and the real In Memoriam montage begins.

10:26 – Writing for a Movie or Miniseries goes to Game Change.

10:28 – Best Actress in a Movie or Miniseries goes to Julianne Moore for Game Change. The Republicans will have fun with this tomorrow. Liberals in Hollyweird congratulating their own for mocking a rill Amurrican.

10:36 – Best Directing for a Movie or Miniseries goes to Jay Roach for Game Change.

10:38 – Best Actor in a Movie or Miniseries goes to Kevin Costner for Hatfields & McCoys.

10:46 – Best Movie or Miniseries goes to Game Change. Maybe it wasn’t so smart to get American Horror Story into the Movie/Miniseries category? Hm, Ryan Murphy? Okay, he basically did that for Jessica Lange…

10:48 – Best Drama goes to Homeland. Bullshit.

10:56 – Best Comedy goes to Modern Family.

That’s a wrap, folks. Thanks!
