A video aired as part of comedian Daniel Tosh’s show Tosh.0 shows what could be considered sexual assault. Complete with laugh track and joking commentary by Tosh, the video shows a teenage boy falling victim to a prank that turns into what could be considered forced and unwanted sexual contact–otherwise known as sexual assault. The video, from an episode that aired on June 14, 2011, shows two teenage boys, one surprise attacking the other with a large, black dildo. Tosh introduced the video as part of the “Video Breakdown” segment of his show, getting in a pedophilia joke while he does it: “Two teenage boys and a massive sex toy. That’s either a party at Bradley Cooper’s house or this week’s Breakdown!”
The video starts with both boys getting a few hits in, one with the dildo and the other with hands. But then it gets tricky; after the attacker and “prank” victim have wrestled and the latter has been pinned with his butt in the air, his pants are pulled down. After a few hits from the dildo on his bare ass, the first boy holds down the hand of the boy he’s sitting on top of and proceeds to stab the dildo at, or into, the boy’s anus. Whether or not there is any actual penetration is not clear as it was been blurred for broadcast–but the intention is clear. After the attack has ceased, the boy lies on his back with his hands over his face as other friends roll on the ground laughing and his attacker is high-fived.
Was it just a playful attack that ended in laughs for everyone? Maybe. Without input from the boys involved, real malicious intent or injury can’t be proven. Regardless, as Tosh pointed out in his commentary, “The line between prank and rape is pretty blurry right now.”
Rape seems to be one of Tosh’s favorite subjects for jokes; aside from his recent joke suggesting that a female audience member’s gang rape would be funny, there are rumors that the premiere of Tosh’s new animated show Brickleberry had to be heavily edited because “most of the pilot is about rape.”
