Recipe Sunday: Turtle Cake

Recipe Sunday: Turtle CakeWhat is your favorite dessert? I have many, but one thing they all have in common is the presence of chocolate. Feel free to make the cake batter from scratch, but if you are lazy like me, you can use Betty Crocker’s chocolate fudge cake mix. Mmm, my mouth is watering just thinking about this cake!

Ingredients

  • 1 box chocolate cake mix
  • 1 13.4 ounce can dulce de leche
  • 1/4 cup evaporated milk
  • 6 tablespoons butter, softened
  • 1 cup chopped walnuts or pecans
  • 1 cup chocolate chips

Preparation
Preheat the oven to 350 degrees F. Grease and flour a 9×13 cake pan. Prepare chocolate cake according to package directions. Pour half of the cake batter in the pan, and set the rest aside. Bake for 18 minutes.

Mix the dulce de leche, evaporated milk, butter, and walnuts thoroughly. Remove cake from the oven, cover with chocolate chips. Spread the dulce de leche mixture on top, and then cover with the remaining cake batter. Bake for an additional 40 or 45 minutes. Let the cake cool before cutting into it, if you can.
