Anticlimax: RuPaul’s Drag Race Season 4 Finale

“Resistance is futile,” the queens intone as they hit the workroom. Phi Phi says she knew this would be the top three. Sharon says she’s surprised she made it this far. Hit the jump and let’s dish on how the finale played out!

During She-Mail, Ru name checks every challenge the top three have survived. “Your biggest test is yet to come,” she tells them on the screen before entering the workroom.

The final challenge will be to star in RuPaul’s video for “Glamazon.” Acting, dancing, lip-synching: they’ll be tested on all levels.

Sharon has trouble with the choreography during rehearsal. Her problems continue during shooting, and everyone becomes frustrated with her, including the d-bag director.

After shooting the video, the queens are instructed to go in the ladies’ room. Tyra and Raja are there. They inform the queens that they’ll also be acting in a scene with RuPaul.

Before they shoot that scene, though, they each have a meal with RuPaul and get to engage in some real talk. Chad talks about her damaged relationship with her father, and realizes the way she can shut feelings out probably contributes to her lack of vulnerability on stage. Phi Phi says her father beat her up so badly that she was in the hospital, and that was the last time she spoke to him. Sharon talks about feeling guilty that her boyfriend tried out for Drag Race every season and didn’t get called back, but Sharon got called back on her first audition for the show.

Back in the workroom, the three queens resolve some of their prior conflicts. They move on to film their big scene with Ru, which mostly involves getting the shet beaten out of them. Awesome. Phi Phi goes way over the top, but all the queens do well with pretending to take a punch or kick.

On the Main Stage, we have only family tonight: Michelle Visage and Santino Rice.

Chad Michaels: Versace-inspired, very bondage superhero. Very Chad Michaels.

Sharon Needles: She went super spooky, classic Sharon with octopus leg/tentacle fingers. I love this betch so much.

Phi Phi O’Hara: She looks played out as usual, in some kind of Flintstones circus performer ensemble, with severely overdone makeup. Very Vegas Reno showgirl.

After Ru discusses the choice she has to make with the other judges, the queens are called back out. For the first time ever on Drag Race, all three finalists must lip-synch for their lives. Say what? Yes, all three queens lip-synch “Glamazon” in a final bid to become America’s Next Drag Superstar.

After the lip-synch, Ru says the winner will not be announced until next week’s reunion show. Say what? Yes, we have to wait until next week to find out the winner. How disappointing. Then Ru instructs the audience to let their voices be heard. Get yourself on The Twitters and Bookface and tell Ru who you think should win. But…didn’t they film the reunion weeks–if not months–ago? I would love to believe we have some say in the outcome, but I don’t believe it. Despite that, I still tweeted my love for Sharon last night. This morning, I logged into Bookface and scrolled through the comments on RuPaul’s Drag Race status update (asking us to chime in). While I didn’t read every comment, I have to say that people overwhelmingly seemed to favor Sharon Needles. No matter what happens, Ms. Needles has earned herself a loyal following. We’ll see what happens next week, kittens.
